Why Tan?

The modern way to tan should leave nothing to chance. The emphasis is on pleasurable enjoyment of tanning, but taking into account the differences of skin type. The positive effects of UV light on our bodies are well documented, but many of us are unaware of the important part that UV light rays play in our lives. There is little doubt that carefully controlled exposure to UV light is essential to our health- but also benefits us in other ways:

☛Pre-holiday tanning greatly reduces the risk of burning, setting up the skin, allowing you to go into the sun sooner for longer.
☛Post-holiday tanning prolongs your tan leaving you looking and feeling better all year round.
☛Tanning promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
☛UV light stimulates the production of Vitamin D3, essential in our bodies for bones to absorb calcium and prevent Osteoporosis.
☛It counteracts the ‘winter blues’ or the effects of S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
☛It’s proven by dermatologists to effectively treat skin conditions such as Acne, Psoriasis and Eczema.
☛It also increases resistance to infection and viral diseases.
☛UV light is classified in wavelengths known as UVa, UVb, & UVc. Sunbed tubes contain a balance of UVa & UVb. The amount of A versus B combined with the wattage determines the strength of the tube.

SCOTLAND – The law came into force on 1 December 2009. It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 to use, purchase or hire a sunbed.
ENGLAND AND WALES – The law came into force on 8 April 2011. It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 to use a sunbed.
NORTHERN IRELAND – The law came into force on 1 May 2012. It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 to use a sunbed.
TSA’s Code of Practice prohibits sunbed use by anyone under 18 years.

SUNBED USE BY UNDER 18

It is estimated that one-third of our lifetime exposure to UV occurs in the first 18 years of life. The delicate skin of children needs to be protected, as the melanin-producing cells do not act efficiently enough to cope with over-exposure and there is evidence which suggests that over-exposure and sunburn pose the biggest risk to skin damage.

Preventing sunburn and over-exposure in childhood is seen as a major factor in preventing skin damage in later life. On the other hand, studies have shown that UV provides a source of Vitamin D, which is essential for maintaining a healthy skeleton, eg prevention of rickets. The answer is that children should receive a certain amount of exposure to UV for health reasons but must avoid over-exposure and sunburn.

THE BENEFITS OF TANNING

☛The light in the sunbed will strengthen the immune system as will provide you with vitamin D like real sun would.
☛The light will give energy and strength and will increase the happiness hormone production known as endorphin!
☛The sunbed lights are designed to protect from harmful light which is believed to be better when tanning in real sun.
☛You will get skincare together with tanning with Prestige Lightvision

Flamingo Bay Professional Tanning Studio recommends customers use our handy skin type configurator below to assess your own skin type. A description of your skin type will be determined at the bottom of this page. Knowing your skin type will help determine your exposure times to prevent over exposure

However, this is only a guide. A salon assistant will recommend an appropriate session based not only on your skin type but also by the strength of the sunbed that you wish to use.
